FanCon is an annual convention and slice of geek heaven held in the CTICC that celebrates the comic and pop culture industry.
This yearly comic con was the first of its kind in South Africa. It is a multi-day event that draws fanboys and fangirls from around the country and features international and local guests, an artist's alley, panel talks, cosplay, exhibitors, workshops, tabletop gaming, geek merch, signing sessions and more.
Attendees can interact with creators and artists, purchase comics, prints, figures, toys, original artwork, and commission art pieces. There is also a popular daily geek quiz, where visitors can participate and stand a chance to win an amazing range of cool prizes. A major highlight every year is the cosplay masquerade and competition where entrants stand a chance to score prizes.
FanCon takes place around the first Saturday in May which is Free Comic Book Day. FCBD is a day where comic book devotees can pick up a free comic book at either of the Reader’s Den shops in Tygervalley and Stadium on Main. The stores also have special deals and prizes up for grabs on the day.
Readers Den Comic Shop is a specialist comic book store owned and managed by two brothers, Nizar and Mahdi Abrahams, who are both avid enthusiasts of the products they sell.
Readers Den Comic Shop specialises in the latest imported comics, graphic novels, manga, comic supplies, back issue comics, action figures, statues, posters, as well as a vast array of pop culture products and merchandise.
