Seeff uMhlanga campaign to say “Thank you!” to local heroes in uMhlanga Rocks

Category News

Twenty local heroes will be chosen and throughout December will be announced and rewarded with a hamper of prizes sponsored by local businesses including Mangwanani, Pick n Pay uMhlanga Rocks, Seeff uMhlanga, Spar, uMhlanga Rocks, The Oyster Box Hotel and others. A grand prize from Protea Marriott Hotel is up for grabs for one lucky person who voted for their hero, with smaller prizes also on offer.

Says Seeff uMhlanga Sales Director and Licensee Brett Botsis: “uMhlanga Rocks is one of the most incredible destinations in the world, with the environments of the beach and promenade and the village and shopping combining to create a home and holiday destination that is much loved by all who come to it. People love to live here, they love to eat out here and they love to visit the beaches and enjoy the social aspect of the great town. We have a variety of shopping centres to choose from, incredible restaurants and stunning blue flag beaches flanked by a world-class 3 km promenade to walk along. The streets are clean, the infrastructure works well and it is safe to walk around during the day or at night.”

But, adds Brett, this is not by accident, and all too often the efforts put in to maintain these qualities, often in challenging circumstances such as storm damage and continued development, go unnoticed, and the heroes in our midst become part of what we expect rather than the stand-outs that they are. “Hence the ‘Thank you’ campaign, and why we as a company have stopped to reflect on who needs to be thanked for making uMhlanga Rocks what it is, and why we are asking our community to do the same,” he said.

The campaign is fully supported by the uMhlanga UIP who operate on the notion of the collective and community and what can be achieved if we look beyond our boundary lines. “When Brett approached us with this campaign idea it was so gratifying to know that the efforts of so many in our home would be recognised, and we are very excited to be a part of it,” says Cara Reilly who heads up placemaking in uMhlanga Rocks.

How does the campaign work?
To get the ball rolling the staff at Seeff have compiled a list of 10 people / organisations, and are asking the public to add their 10 names. To do this simply go to the THANK YOU post on the Seeff uMhlanga or uMhlanga UIP Facebook pages and give the name and a few words on why your hero should be chosen. The 10 people / organisations with the most votes will be chosen to complete the list of 20. During December Seeff will arrange a surprise visit to each hero to say “Thank you” in person. These visits will be recorded and posted across social media with the intention of passing the appreciation on.

So who are you wanting the thank? The people who sweep the streets and collect the waste or the security staff in your public spaces? Maybe it’s the garden maintenance team, your building caretaker or a member of the waiting staff and your ‘local’? What about the local police, the car guard who knows your name or the lifeguards that are ever-present? It could be the head of a local business that looks beyond the bottom line or the organization that focuses on what is good for the whole?
