About the Plett Winelands and how it started

Peter Thorpe from Crags, was the first to plant grapes on his Bramon Estate as the property ticked all the boxes for wine.

After much research, hard work and the choice to bring in a renowned winemaker, Anton Smal, Plett's first vineyard, Bramon, was born in 2000.

Soon others followed suit but in a very slow manner. If you have been to Plettenberg Bay, it may seem as if almost every farm along the coast is growing grapes but there are only 16 vineyards with 10 producing farms that bottle their own wine.
