Coffee BloC

This Coffee shop is located at Buitenverwachting wine farm. Coffee BloC is nestled in a historic building and serves artisan coffee made from freshly-roasted beans from the roastery next door, called Quaffee.

Sip on various blends of coffee or indulge in single-origin samples. Guests can also watch the entire roasting process and learn how it works. Coffee BloC is a warm and friendly space that serves a range of coffees and teas along with pastries and homemade cakes.

They do offer breakfast and lunch but the menu options are quite limited. For breakfast, guests can choose between scones, eggs benedict, scrambled eggs or a large cooked breakfast. On the lunch menu, meals include salad, fish and chips, salmon, beef burgers or pork ciabattas. The meals are delicious, despite the small offering.

Coffee BloC is open from 8am to 5pm on weekdays and from 8:30am to 3pm on Saturdays. They are closed on Sundays. They serve breakfast from 9am to 11am, and lunch from 12pm to 2pm. Find them at Buitenverwachting wine farm, just off Klein Constantia Road in Constantia.

Kauai

This franchise is known for its health-conscious menu and delicious smoothies. It's a great spot for a healthy lunch or to grab a takeaway drink with your friends. Kauai serves non-traditional all-day breakfasts such as smoothie bowls and breakfast wraps. They also offer a tasty range of savoury wraps and salads that are perfect for lunch.

They probably have the largest range of smoothies available, from fruit smoothies to protein-packed power smoothies. Kauai is also known for its health juices that are blended from raw ingredients.

Although they don't serve tea or coffee, they do have a coffee and date smoothie that is perfect for any health fanatic. Kauai is open from 9am to 6pm on weekdays, from 9am to 5pm on Saturdays, and from 9am to 4pm on Sundays. Find them at the Constantia Village shopping centre.

Kirstenbosch Tea Room

This famous tea room at the magnificent Kirstenbosch National Botanical Gardens is the perfect spot for a lazy afternoon amongst nature. Built in 1924, the tea room is situated near the top gate (Gate 2) of the gardens, next to the nursery. It's an idyllic yet vibrant spot that caters to thousands of locals and tourists every week.

 

Kirstenbosch Tea Room is known for its high tea combos (think large scones with jam and cream paired with hot tea), but they also serve various other hot and cold beverages. The food menu is quite extensive, offering breakfasts and lunches, as well as homemade bread, cakes, bakes and treats.

The food menu also includes local delicacies, traditional favourites and something for all palettes. Kirstenbosch Tea Room is open from 8:30am to 5pm every day of the year, besides Christmas Day. Find them inside the Kirstenbosch National Botanical Gardens, just off Rhodes Avenue in Bishopscourt.

Little Stream Tea Garden

Little Stream Conference Centre & Tea Garden is one of the Southern Suburbs' best-kept secrets. The tea garden is nestled in an idyllic garden estate; perfect for birthday parties, kitchen teas and even weddings. Little Stream Tea Garden has outdoor and indoor seating options that allow guests to make the most of the weather.

The tea garden offers a rustic, artisanal menu that suits the alfresco setting. They serve breakfast, brunch, lunch and afternoon tea (complete with homemade cakes and sweet treats). All meals are prepared in the farmhouse kitchen from scratch - even their mayonnaise.

Little Stream is a lovely location for a weekend breakfast. Think hot pressed coffee or Earl Grey tea with scones and homemade berry jam. They cater for vegans and vegetarians too. Booking is essential as seating is fairly limited in the quaint tea garden.

Little Stream is open from 9am to 4:45pm every day of the week, except Mondays. Find them at the top of Klein Constantia Road in Constantia.

Nest Deli

This little café is situated at Constantia Uitsig wine farm at the end of a row of old gabled buildings. The welcoming atmosphere makes it a lovely spot for a cup of fresh coffee after a day's wine tasting.

Nest Deli serves a variety of breakfasts (from granola and yoghurt to omelettes and french toast) as well as light lunches and patisseries. Peruse their selection of Deli delights that include baked goodies, jams, olive oils and dressings.

They offer the usual range of soulful coffees and teas, as well as some cold beverages too. Nest deli is open from 8am to 4pm on weekdays and from 8:30am to 4pm on the weekends. Breakfasts are served until noon. Find them at Constantia Uitsig Estate on Spaanschemat River Road in Constantia.

Mugg & Bean

This famous franchise has a store at Constantia Village. Mugg & Bean is known for its inventive menu and generous portions. The muffins are huge and, although the menu may seem a tad pricey at first glance, the meals are large and delicious.

Mugg & Bean offers unique beverages, such as superfood lattes, icy freezochinos, fruity slushies, blended sodas and loads more. Their coffee is delicious and their tea selection includes iced teas. The franchise serves large breakfasts and lunches, as well as freshly-baked confectionaries.

Seattle Coffee Co.

The Seattle in Constantia is ideal for a quick cuppa joe. If you're looking for a satisfying caffeine hit on your way to work or a nice space to sit on a weekend, then this store offers delicious coffee and friendly service.

Spirit Café

Spirit is a small, cosy café with a warm energy. They specialise in vegetarian and vegan options. The food is healthy and well-portioned. They offer breakfasts such as eggs and avo on toast, crustless quiche or muesli bowls. The lunch menu allows you to build your own plate or to choose between a sandwich or a soup.

The drinks are equally healthy, offering fresh pressed juices and smoothies blended with delicious fruits and vegetables right in the kitchen. The smoothies all contain a blend of common and exotic ingredients (such as baobab powder, Himalayan salt, cacao nibs and hemp seeds).

Stodels Café

Attached to the well-known Stodels nursery, this café is a nice place to grab a coffee and a snack while doing a bit of garden shopping. Have a break while picking out new plants and sit at the wooden benches with a refreshing cup of authentic Origin coffee.

The café may be small but it's a clean and simple space. They offer cooked breakfasts, muffins and a variety of light meals. Stodels Café is open from 9am to 6pm, from Monday to Saturday, and from 9am to 5pm on Sundays. Find them at 62 Doordrift Road in Constantia.

Tashas

Tashas has become a well-known franchise for its inventive and delicious meals, buzzing atmosphere and friendly staff. Inspire by the French countryside, Tashas is a popular hangout on any day of the week. Guests do have to wait to be seated often, but it's a sign that the café is a success.

Tashas offers indoor and outdoor seating. The seats outside offer great views of the Constantia Nek and Skeleton Gorge mountain range. All Tashas cafés have two menus - one standard across all branches and one unique to each. The unique menu is often more expensive and luxurious.

They serve a variety of breakfasts, from oats to poached eggs with avo, feta and roasted tomatoes on ciabatta (a must try). Their lunch menu is equally as impressing, catering to all diets and taste preferences. On the drinks side, you can choose between hot and cold beverages that are all delicious. We'd recommend the cucumber, apple and mint granita.

Tashas is open from 7am to 9pm, from Monday to Saturday, and from 8am to 9pm on Sundays and public holidays. Find them at the Constantia Village shopping centre.

Vida e Caffè

There are two of these Portuguese coffee franchises in the area. They offer the usual teas, coffees and hot chocolates. Try their special blend of coffee - a mix of Arabica beans with a low caffeine content that's delicate on the palette.

Another must-try is their iced coffee (or gelado). They blend their branded coffee with ice cream to make a creamy and smooth drink that is perfect for a hot day. Vida also serves fruit smoothies and juices.

Admittedly, Vida e Caffè is more suited to takeaways but they do offer seating for the more patient patrons. Try some of their sweet and savoury snacks, such as homemade muffins, pretzel rolls (paozinhos), and sandwiches.

The Vida e Caffè at Constantia Village is open from 6:30am to 6pm from Monday to Saturday, and from 7am to 4pm on Sundays. The Vida e Caffè at the Kirstenbosch National Botanical Gardens is open from 6:30am to 6pm on week days, and from 7:30am to 6pm on weekends.
