Best hiking trails in Hout Bay

Category News

Hout Bay is home to a number of extremely beautiful hiking trails. Here are three local favourites.

Blackburn Ravine

The Hike to Blackburn Ravine starts at the East Fort car park close to the Chapman's Peak Drive tollbooth. The full hike takes about an hour and is 4.6km. It's a fairly easy hike and offers hikers the opportunity to explore the old cannon fort. The trail zigzags up towards Chapman's Peak and tops out at Blackburn Ravine where the views are absolutely breathtaking and you're able to stop for a snack and take in the view.

Little Lion's Head

The Little Lions Head Trail starts and finishes at Mount Rhodes Drive. The hike takes about an hour and is relatively strenuous. There is a fair amount of rock scrambling but it's totally worth it when you reach the summit and take in the terrific view.

Myburgh's Ravine

The Myburgh's Waterfall Ravine Trail is by far one of the most beautiful hikes in Hout Bay. It is recommended that you do the hike in winter so that you're able to view the beautiful waterfalls. The hike starts off from Farriers Way and ends at Suikerbossie Restaurant. You need to be pretty fit to take on this hike as it takes around 6 hours. The trail is 8km in total and is quite a steep climb. The breathtaking views of Oudekraal, Camps Bay, Clifton and Llundudno make all the scrambling completely worth it.
