Alverstone at a glance

Alverstone is a well-known and lush green neighbourhood in the Outer West Durban area. Residents not only benefit from the advantages of a contemporary country lifestyle but also from the convenience of having shopping, schools, a private hospital, entertainment options, and fantastic restaurants all within a short drive.

Alverstone real estate has both tastefully constructed country villas and undeveloped land where you can construct the home of your dreams. Given that the majority of the land is flat, there is a strong demand for smallholdings in the region with equestrian amenities. Numerous stud farms with expansive grounds that are ideal for horseback riding may be found in the area.

Climate

In the summer, when temperatures soar into the high 20s or 30s during the day and fall comfortably into the high teens or low 20s at night, Alverstone residents get to enjoy warm days and chilly evenings. A jersey is usually necessary from June through August when maximum temperatures are most likely to barely reach the high teens or low 20s. These are the coldest months of the year.

Schools in the area

Alverstone residents enjoy the opportunity to enrol their kids in the highly esteemed Roseway Waldorf School. Six families and three teachers in the community came together to start the Roseway Waldorf School in 1985. With only eight students, the school began operations in a modest Alverstone farmhouse. Children as early as three months old and up to grade 12 are taught by the school today.

Within a two-minute drive of Alverstone are Kearsney College and Highbury Preparatory. The nearby Hillcrest Primary and Hillcrest High Schools are two more renowned schools.

Healthcare in the area

There are plenty of healthcare services around for locals. Alverstone's two nearest hospitals are Hillcrest Hospital on Hospital Road and Busamed Hillcrest Private Hospital on Kassier Road. The Highway Sub-Acute and Rehabilitation Hospital, Medicross Hillcrest, and Healing Hills Hospital are three further prominent facilities.

Shopping centres

For individuals living close to Alverstone, there are several shopping options. The neighbourhood is about a ten-minute drive from Hillcrest Corner Shopping Mall, Christians Village, and Hillgate Mall.

Distance from key points (Airport/CBD)

The King Shaka International Airport is 60 km away from Alverstone. This journey will take a 45-minute drive via the N3 and N2. Hillcrest CBD is approximately 7 km or 10 minutes away.

Restaurants

Every month on the last Sunday at Roseway Waldorf School in Alverstone, the Country Vegan Food & Craft Market offers a peaceful setting to unwind. At the market, you may spend the day shopping, indulge in plenty of delicious vegan food, and listen to some local music. The market offers vegans a secure place where they may buy with the knowledge that all products were made responsibly and with care for the environment.

The Pot And Kettle family restaurant, which has a view of The Valley of a Thousand Hills, is a well-kept local secret. The restaurant is accessible to those in wheelchairs and provides free WiFi, safe parking, and a place for kids to play safely together.

The Lucky Bean and The View Cafe are two more local favourites.

Special attractions

The Alverstone Wildlife Park is the ideal location for anyone who likes to hike, take pictures, roam, or observe birds without having to worry about leaving the Upper Highway region. The stunning 100-hectare nature reserve is home to a wide variety of animals and birds, including a pair of fish eagles, and has a diverse ecosystem. For hikers and walkers, there are various properly marked pathways accessible, as well as a picnic and braai area with several restrooms.

The Mushroom Farm, a family-run dynamic centre only 5 minutes from Alverstone, offers a tranquil country charm. A variety of interesting stores provide visitors with the chance to shop amid the hens and bunnies. To keep the kids occupied, there is a farmyard and a jungle gym. The Mushroom Farm offers something for everyone, including antique collectors, animal lovers, foodies, and gardeners.
