Knysna Central at a glance

A brief history of the area 

Knysna dates back thousands of years. It gets its name from the earliest inhabitants of the area, the Khoi Khoi. The Khoisan name means place of wood or fern leaves. European settlers began farming in the area in the 1700s. A large farm called Melkhoutkraal was established along the east bank of the Knysna river.

George Airport is approximately 69,6 km (55 minutes) away via the N2. To catch an overseas flight you will have to travel to Cape Town International Airport which is 5 hours (472,2 km) away. 

Climate 

Knysna enjoys summery, warm weather for most of the year. The temperatures reach highs of 28°C-31°C and lows between 12°C-14°C. This makes it a pleasurable place to enjoy outdoor activities such as hiking, picnicking, exploring the Garden Route and more.
