Sedgefield offers outstanding value for beach lovers

Category Area Focus

It is in the heart of the Garden Route, about 20-minutes from Knysna and under 40-minutes from George.

This little paradise is a hidden gem just waiting to be discovered. It is extremely popular with holiday makers and retirement buyers. While prices have gone up in recent years, property here is still more affordable than in some of the other Garden Route towns like Wilderness and Plettenberg Bay.

Sedgefield boasts a healthy climate and clean air. It is mainly located alongside the Sedgefield lagoon, forming part of the Swartvlei lake system. These lakes along with the beautiful, unspoilt beaches make the town a water sport mecca and you will see residents and visitors fishing, swimming and having a fun time on windsurfers and boats year-round.

The lagoon is picturesque and rich in bird, animal and plant life, making it a haven for nature lovers, birdwatchers and photographers. The town also has interesting shops, markets and restaurants. These include the Wild Oats Community Farmers’ Market, the Scarab market and the Mosaic market, held every Saturday where you can find fresh produce and home-made products come from all along the Garden Route, and buyers come from as far as PE. The area is a photographer and birdwatcher’s dream.

Popular eateries include Montecello in Sedgefield’s Main Service Road renowned for its delicious espetadas. PiliPili Beach Bar Restaurant, right by the dunes at Myoli Beach is another hotspot and there is even an extreme sports centre right next door.

Water sports and nature lovers tend to gravitate towards Swartvlei. The Sedgefield beaches are stunning, and you can walk from Swartvlei Beach to local landmark Gericke’s Point. The village markets on a Saturday are not to be missed.

The Sedgefield Craft Brewery next to the Scarab Village Craft Market is a boutique-style craft brewery specialising in high-quality handcrafted beer.

Although, like everywhere else, the market will be affected by the recent turn of events, Lightstone data shows that transaction volumes since 2016 have remained steady. The excellent investment value is further demonstrated by the steady growth in median prices over the last few years.

The median price for freehold property is now at around R1.65 million, up by 36% since 2016 while the sectional title price, which now stands at R1.178m is up by 56%.

Investing in a holiday or retirement home or moving to Sedgefield will be one of the best decisions you will ever make. Your children will live carefree, outdoor lives. People wave at each other in the street and when things go wrong, the whole community rallies around them. People participate in life here. You will feel safe and cherished.
