Starting a Hobby that Benefits your Home

Category Top Property Tips

In recent times most people have tried to find a healthy balance between work, exercise and their social & home lives. This has all changed and as we do our part by social distancing in order to flatten the curve and curb the spread of viral infection; many have taken up hobbies they otherwise might not have found time for in their usual routines.

These hobbies could include anything from tending the garden, taking on a craft project; to learning a new language or completing an online course. At Seeff, Home is our Story and here we discuss those hobbies & projects that could benefit not only your home-life but the home you live in.

Declutter your home

For those who haven’t already done an early spring-clean, declutter you cupboards & drawers of all those random items you no longer use. These could include extra appliances & utensils, clothing items, shoes and even old toys. These items could be donated to goodwill to aid in support of the less fortunate.

From garden to table

Consider starting a vegetable & herb garden which as far as hobbies go, has a dual effect. Most people that enjoy gardening have been known to say that it is relaxing and could have a calming effect. The other benefit of creating a vegetable & herb garden would be producing your own food.

Veg & Herb gardens can easily be incorporated into one’s dwelling whilst taking up minimal space. For those that live in apartments, a shelf in the kitchen or a corner on the balcony would be ideal. For those who have the benefit of a yard, there’s even more space to be creative. The most important aspect is to ensure that whatever you plant is conducive with the season & regional climate.

Give your home a make-over

Changing the interior of one’s house can be a daunting project to say the least. But with an abundance of time during the national lock-down, this could be the ideal project. Take up learning how to apply wall-paper; which as a trend has become popular again in recent times.

For those that prefer to paint their walls, choosing beautiful new colors for each room that would suit the décor can be a fun exercise. In addition to painting ones walls, you could also take to online tutorials to learn the art of stenciling. This would ultimately give your walls a new look that is distinctly you.

Out with the old, in with the new

Some items around the house that would otherwise have been thrown away or recycled may even be repurposed to serve a practical or aesthetic use within the house. Online craft tutorials have seen the bottom of two-liter plastic bottles become pot-plants and old empty frames be repainted, glued together and reborn as a bold new wall hanging.

Think of repainting an old furniture item, like a table or book shelf to bring new character to a golden oldie. Repurposed furniture could be moved into other parts of the house to change up the dynamic of one’s home.

In conclusion

Whatever new and exciting hobbies people have taken to during this time, the important thing is to have fun and spend time with one’s loved ones.
