Have you joined our local social and security community groups yet?
Want to know what is going on in the community, issues arising, where you can help, how you can recycle or freecycle, help those in need, or what to do in case of emergency?

An enormous benefit of social media and cellular phones is that you do not have to search far to find what you need and that includes local community groups where you can chat, find things, get advice, or help in case of emergency.

There are many other social media groups that you could join, from recycling and freecycling to gardening. The recycling communities are also often places where you can find great ideas on how to breathe new life into old furniture or décor. There is for example a whole trend around painting old kitchens and furniture and modernising these.

Other groups include information sharing on great places to eat or hang out, visit and holiday at. For those who enjoy hobbies and interests, there is literally a smorgasbord of groups that you can join and interact with.

For beach and surf lovers, Hout Bay is of course not short on group. If you want to learn how to surf or SUP (stand up paddle), or participate in events, you can visit https://capetownsurfing.com/ to learn more about the Hout Bay surfing school.

If you are interested in lifesaving, why not join the Hout Bay Lifesaving Club. For more information, visit https://sentineloceanalliance.org/pages/hout-bay-surf-lifesaving-club.

Hout Bay is of course a cycling paradise, and we have our own Hout Bay Cycling Club. Visit https://helphoutbay.co.za/volunteering-opportunities/hout-bay-cycling-club/ for more information.

For those looking for community outreach, you can look into "Help Hout Bay". Visit https://helphoutbay.co.za/volunteer/ for more information. Or you can visit https://e-clubhouse.org/sites/houtbay/index.php.

Most of Hout Bay is probably by now part of the "Hout Bay Community" Facebook group, https://web.facebook.com/groups/267998740071963/?_rdc=1&_rdr. Here, you can buy, sell, trade and find information.

If you are not yet part of the Hout Bay Community Crime Prevention, then visit https://ccphoutbay.co.za/. This ground-breaking non-profit organisation works 24/7 in the interest of keeping the Hout Bay community safe.

If you are needing to report something in the area, be it a fire, requesting a snake removal, burst pipe or a suspicious person, make sure you are part of the Buzzer Community, an App that links you to a network of responders and professionals' expertise to assist with your report within seconds. If you don't already have it, be sure to download it, it is available for Apple and Android.
