De Deur at a glance

Located near Johannesburg lies the small town of De Deur within the Gauteng Province's sprawling Sedibeng District Municipality. It is part of the Vaal Triangle, along with the historically significant town of Vereeniging, situated in the vicinity of the Klip and Vaal Rivers. The area is renowned for its convenient location and offers plenty of entertainment, culture, and nightlife options, with easy access to the central areas of Johannesburg. 

A brief history of the area

The area got its name early in 1800. The name De Deur means "through," because the Voortrekkers chased wild animals through the kloof between two kopjes. This made hunting very easy. 

The area was part of the Heidelberg District and has become a tourist attraction due to the legend of the headless motorcyclist.

De Deur residents looking to reach O.R Tambo International Airport can do so in approximately one-hour (69 km) via Sybrand Van Niekerk Freeway and Lanseria International Airport is a one hour and eight-minute drive (77,8 km) via the N1 Western Bypass. Johannesburg Central is 37 minutes away (40,2 km) via the R82.

In De Deur, the warmest month of the year is January with an average high temperature of 27.8°C and the coldest months are June and July with average high temperatures of 17.6°C. The month that offers the most rainfall in the area is December with an average of 18 wet days.
