The New Brighton suburb in the Eastern Cape was established on the outskirts of Gqeberha (Port Elizabeth) in 1902, which was about 8 kilometers north of the city center. Johannesburg's New Brighton was established decades later, as Sandton itself was only established in 1969.

Residents of New Brighton have easy access to a number of places, such as central Sandton shops & businesses, which are 10 minutes away; central Randburg shops & businesses, which are also 10 minutes away; and central Fourways shops & businesses, which is 15 minutes away.

New Brighton is also 10 minutes away from the Sandton Gautrain station, which takes residents south to Rosebank and the Johannesburg center, east to Marlboro and the ORT International Airport, and north to Midrand and the city of Pretoria.

Summers are wonderful... the sun shines 80% of the time, and remarkable thundershowers often punctuate the afternoons. Winters are crisp, with temperatures reaching between 6 and 10C in the nighttime and early mornings. Characteristically dry, winters are short-lived in the June to August months.
