This vibrant suburb was built on Douglasdale Farm, hence the name, established in 1905 by Thomas Douglas and his wife Janet Alexander, whom both immigrated to South Africa from Scotland in the late 19th century.

In 1930 the family started producing milk, and by 1940 they were retailing it, manufacturing over 240 bottles a day by hand. To this day, the dairy in Douglasdale accounts for approximately 1.5% of the country's daily milk production.

Sandton Clinic is the nearest hospital, but Fourways Life and Morningside Clinic are not too far away.  There are local medical practitioners in Douglasdale, or the Bryanston NHC can meet your medical needs. The Olivedale Hospital also offers a range of medical services to the West.

For daily essentials, Douglasdale Shopping Centre has all the leading retailers and the all-important coffee stop, Vide e Café.  Nicolway Centre, Sandton City, and the Fourways Mall Precinct are all within a 10 to 15-minute drive for some serious retail therapy.

5. Cycle Lab Bike Park: The Cycle Lab Bike Park offers challenges for trail runners and mountain bikers alike. Kids' parties, corporate outings, and friends giving each other a run for their money are commonplace at this popular sporting spot.

Distance to airports, main roads, and the CBD

Douglasdale has a central location. It is an upper-middle-class residential suburb in Sandton, located between Bryanston and Fourways. The Sandton CBD is a ten to fifteen-minute drive. The OR Tambo international airport is a 30-minute drive (some 40km away). Lanseria airport is slightly closer, just 22 minutes away (19km).
