A brief history of the area

The new name honours Chief Neharawa, a Shona chief. Despite Zimbabwe's economic and political challenges, Harare has become the country's leading city. It exports gold, maize, cotton, tobacco, citrus fruits, textiles and steel.

Harare has a warm and temperate climate. The average annual temperature is 18.4 °C. You'll find this quite mild for the tropics.
