Zwartkop, Centurion

The suburb of Zwartkop was established from the farm “Zwartkop”, which was founded by Daniel Jacobus Erasmus in 1841. Today the suburb consists of approximately 1,300 houses and 1,200 townhouses. The suburb is popular as it is very centrally situated in Centurion with the Centurion Mall providing over 200 shops, restaurants, medical doctors, secure parking and entertainment facilities. There are two Hotels in the immediate vicinity, namely the Centurion Protea Hotel and Centurion Lake Hotel. The type of properties varies and includes houses, townhouses, duets, apartments, vacant land, clusters, guesthouses, security estates and new developments. The freehold stands range in size from 370 sm to 1500 sm. The price of houses ranges from R700,000 to R3,700,000(2012) whilst the price of townhouses ranges from R500,000 to R1,200,000 (2012). The property owners in Zwartkop are very stable as 78% of the owners have lived in their house for more than 5 years. Within Zwartkop are some security/boomed-off areas, which are the most popular areas.

The suburb is bounded by the N1 freeway to the South, the N14 to the West, the John Vorster Drive to the East and the Hennops River to the North.

Due to the fact that Zwartkop is one of the older suburbs in Centurion, most of the properties have large well established wooded gardens. People prefer Zwartkop for its convenient location, variety of dwellings and tranquil environment.

Shopping Centre’s in the immediate vicinity include the Centurion Mall, Southdown’s Mall, Eco Park Mall and the Centurion Crescent Centre. Close by is the Supersport Park complex where cricket is played and which is home to the Titans. Other sport complexes include Action Cricket, Centurion Gymnastics Club as well as a Planet Fitness Gym.

Zwartkop is central to a number of schools including Southdown’s College (Private School), Doringkloof, Hennopspark, Louis Leipoldt Primary Schools, Zwartkop and Centurion High Schools. There are two Nursery Schools and crèches in Zwartkop.

The Unitas hospital is about 5km from Zwartkop, the Highveld Medical Centre about 1km, the Southdown’s medical Centre about 2km and Centuriomed is situated on the corner of Hippo and Hendrik Verwoerd avenues.

The Gautrain station in West Street in Centurion is within 1km of Zwartkop, making it very easy for commuters to access the train. Zwartkop also offers easy access to the N1 and N14, for commuters travelling by car to either Pretoria, Johannesburg, Krugersdorp, OR Tambo International Airport as well as Lanseria Airport.

The closest police station is the Lyttelton Police Station situated in Basden Street and the Centurion Library is situated in Cantonment Avenue.
