Welcome to Seeff Cradock

Cradock is located in the Eastern Cape province of South Africa and is a historical town in the valley
of the Great Fish River, approximately 250kms from Port Elizabeth. As one of the province's main
centres for the wool industry, Cradock is also known for its dairy and fruit farming.
The geographical position (central to the Eastern Cape) makes Cradock an ideal stopover for the
traveller between the major centres.
Permanent water diverted from the Orange River has given stability that many other rural areas lack
during periodic devastating droughts and made less severe by the Lucerne and maize that is grown
and that the farmers are able to produce winter grazing for their animals. The water has also
enabled them to branch out into other farming enterprises such as dairy, ostrich and vegetable
The prosperity of the town is also due to the farsightedness of the Cradock residents and various
sporting councils in promoting sport on a major scale. Cradock plays host to the great Hansa
Powerade Fish River Canoe Marathon with over 1 000 paddlers every year, as well as prestigious
athletics events on a tartan track. There are also excellent cricket, rugby, golf and bowls facilities, as
well as major tennis tournaments for young and old.
Cradock enjoys a healthy climate, with hot summers, bracing cold winters and a low rainfall. It is the
lack of rain that provides the magnificent view of the stars at night and the glorious sunrises and
sunsets one associates with a desert rather than a rich farming area.
Cradock offers excellent infrastructure including good schools, medical facilities, sporting facilities,
road networks and good security. For a small town, Cradock offers a surprising array of things to do.
It has a remarkable architectural heritage with a number of curiosities including museums and
interesting history (did you know that Paul Kruger was baptized here?). There are sports galore and a
variety of excursions for sightseeing both to enjoy the magnificent scenery and to see other
curiosities in the district.
Practically on our doorstep, is the Mountain Zebra National Park, and a bit further away is the Cat
Conservation Trust which protects and breeds the seldom seen smaller feline predators.
Cradock offers a wide range of property, from numerous spacious residential stands to older historic
houses with wooden floors and new modern and newly built houses. Adjacent to Cradock, are over
8000ha of irrigation farms next to the Great Fish River.
The rest of the district has well established sheep/goat, cattle and game farms. This area is well
known for plains game, particularly springbuck and Kudu.
