A brief history of the area
 
Before 1830, Hawston was a sleepy fishing village, with most residents residing in Herrie's Bay and the neighbouring Middelvlei. Charles Haw, who frequented this area for vacations in the 1850s, inspired the naming of the town of Hawston. In 1860, Caledon commissioner Charles Haw ordered that the village of Hawston be formally laid out and established. The first known settlers of the area are said to have been the Khoisan and the Griqua. This was prior to the development of the land.

If you want to travel from Hawston to Hermanus, it will take 19 minutes (13,6 km) via the R43. Going to Fisherhaven will take five minutes (4,0 km) via the R43. The Cape Town International Airport is only an hour and 11 minutes (94,6 km) via the N2.

Hawston's climate is similar to that of the rest of the Western Cape's coastline, with a somewhat Mediterranean-like weather.  Temperatures in February range from a high of 23,3 °C to a low of 18,3 °C. In Hawston, the average annual rainfall is 270 mm.
