A brief history of the area
Musgrave was named after Sir Anthony Musgrave, who was a colonial administrator and briefly the governor of the South African colony of Natal. Sir Musgrave lived from 31 August 1828 until 9 October 1888.
Musgrave Centre in its original form was the first suburban shopping centre in Durban and was constructed in the late 1950s.
