There are many prestigious schools in nearby Sandton, Rosebank, Houghton, and The Parks.
Kingsmead College, the private girls' school in Rosebank, is the nearest to Dunkeld West. Roedean Senior School for girls is ten minutes away, southwards, in Parktown.
Pridwin Preparatory school for boys in Melrose is also a short drive from Dunkeld West. St David's Marist in Inanda is just six minutes by car. St John's private school for boys is also ten minutes from Dunkeld, situated in Houghton, alongside the King Edward boys' schools known as KEPS and KES.

Rosebank Mall, just five minutes away, is a large, bustling shopping complex with hundreds of shopping and eating-out options. Hyde Park Corner shopping center, which has several high-end and boutique stores, is quieter than busy Sandton City and conveniently near Dunkeld West.

- The Grillhouse at The Firs in Rosebank was established in 1994 and remains a popular steakhouse for both locals and international travellers.
- Pronto Italian is situated at The Colony shopping center and is open Mondays to Sundays. They serve authentic Italian meals and have been a local favourite since 2004.
- Red Chamber in Hyde Park Corner is the place to go for authentic Mandarin (Chinese) food. They are open every day except Mondays. Red Chamber.

Distance to airports, main roads, and the CBD
Dunkeld West is very near the Rosebank Gautrain station. The Gautrain routes make commuting relatively easy. It is a first-class facility, completed just before the 2010 FIFA World Cup that was hosted in South Africa. Routes run from the Johannesburg center (Park Station) through Rosebank and into Sandton central. You can either travel east from the Sandton station to Rhodesfield station and the OR Tambo International Airport or further north through Centurion and onto Pretoria.
If looking to drive, expect a ten-minute drive into Sandton or a fifteen-minute drive into inner Johannesburg. The OR Tambo International Airport is a comfortable thirty-minute drive on the highways.
