Braamfontein at a glance

Braamfontein is located north of Johannesburg's city centre. The area is famed for being one of the coolest places in the country and attracts people from all walks of life. It's a town that always has something to offer in entertainment, culture and opportunities.

A brief history of the area

Beginning as a farm, Braamfontein is recorded as being owned by Gert Bezuidenhout, as early on as 1853. Its name means "Bramble Fountain" and gold was discovered here in 1886 by numerous families who were living on the land. Needless to say, it's become a gold mine of opportunity for those who've made it their home.

Distance from key points (Airport/CBD)

O.R Tambo International Airport is approximately 30 minutes (22,5 km) away from Braamfontein via the R24. The travelling distance to Johannesburg's CBD is a quick 2,4 km away and will take you 10 minutes via Albertina Sisulu Road and Market Street.

Climate

With a dry climate, Braamfontein experiences semi-arid weather conditions almost the entire year round. Being a landlocked city, the humidity is minimal. Rainfall is prevalent during the spring and summer months with temperatures reaching 28°C. The lowest temperature in winter months reaches 14°C.

Schools in the area

Braamfontein has a strong sense of education. With the famous University of the Witswatersrand being situated here, it's only natural to be thought of as a university town filled with eclectic students. For those who prioritise giving their children a well-rounded schooling experience, this is the town to do it in. Choose from The National School of The Arts, Rand Girls High School, Helpmekaar Kollege and others.

Healthcare in the area

Arriving at 44 Stanley immediately ensures it's one of those places you never forget. If you're looking for boutique shopping and carefully curated, artisanal eateries, you've come to the right place. This authentic courtyard is set in the heart of Braamfontein and offers patrons a breath of fresh air from the traditional shopping mall. You get a feel of a community that values individuality as you peruse the many stores on offer.
