2019's been a tough year thus far. It's easy to forget that there have been happy stories tucked between election drama, cricket fails and state capture. 1. Fun feature

Have you seen Ed Sheeran and Justin Bieber's music video for their latest single, 'I Don't Care'? It has the pair juxtaposed against various scenes and places using a green screen. One of these happens to be the famous Sea Point Promenade. The music video has already racked up over a hundred million views. (Read more)

2. Close encounters

Whale season is still a few months away. However, that didn't stop two lucky kayakers from spotting one during a paddling trip off Sea Point. A video of the special moment was captured by Anneli Wagner and posted on Facebook. You can practically feel the pair's delight as the majestic creature passes by. (Read more)

3. Winter amusement

Cape Town is the place to be in winter. That's the gist of a hilarious music video created by Cape Town Tourism. It features local faces, the unique Capetonian humour and beautiful shots of the city. Sea Point Promenade is one of the locations which made the cut. (Read more)

4. Upgrade time

Sea Point Promenade is a popular place for cycling, walking and sightseeing. With renovations being done, it's good to know future generations will enjoy its beauty. The revamp project will rehabilitate and strengthen the sea wall to withstand ocean swells. More public seating will also be built. (Read more)

5. Pool perfection

Sea Point Pavillion Swimming Pool is always great for a refreshing dip. It was closed for a short period in January when ash deposits were found in the water due to the recent fire on Lions Head and Signal Hill. Locals will be glad to know the pool is back to its pristine state. (Read more)

6. Sea rescue

In March, a juvenile Southern Right whale was entangled in fishing ropes, gear and buoys off Sea Point. Brave attempts by The SA Whale Disentanglement Network, National Sea Rescue Institute and other citizens to free it were successful. The whale safely returned back into the deep with its companions. 7. Canine runway

Dogs strutting their stuff in cute outfits? Yes, please! This was the scene at the fourth annual Paws on the Promenade dog walk fundraiser. From Mouille Point lighthouse to the Sea Point swimming pool and back, dogs and their humans walked in aid of the Mdzananda Animal Clinic in Khayelitsha. (Read more)

8. Famous find

For almost 100 years, a massive cannon (that could be hidden and protected within a gun pit) lay beneath a Sea Point property. The rare military relic was eventually discovered by a construction worker. This year the intriguing story was the focus of a multimedia BBC Travel feature. (Read more)

9. Celestial sighting

First, there was a flash across the sky. Then, a large explosion which shook windows. This was a small meteor which passed over the Western Cape in January. People from Sea Point were some of the lucky few who saw its journey. (Read more)

10. Goodness rewarded

Sea Point is a community that cares about its people. Atlantic Hope, a safety house for vulnerable babies, is a shining example of this compassion. The non-profit organisation has fostered over 90 infants and recently received a R120 000 donation. (Read more)
