Hike your way to adventure

Before you decide to embark on a hike, it's important to do your research on what type of hiking trails there are in the area and their level of difficulty. Some trails can last days and you can stop to camp overnight or visit a nature lodge, while others are a few hours or a quick 30-45 minute walk at most. Your health and mobility are also of primary concern, as you will need to be able to withstand a number of unexpected conditions depending on the trail you choose.

Guides can be hired to help you navigate the trail and are a good resource to gain more insight into the area you're trekking through. They can point out interesting flora and fauna and know the best routes for views and scenery to capture those picture-perfect moments.

The Dunes Plett offers hikes that last from one hour up to six days. They offer a range of trails with different highlights along the way. The most popular hiking trail is the Otter Trail. It is 44 km long and takes approximately five days to complete but legend has it is worth every drop of sweat. It travels along the Storms River Mouth and covers Nature's Valley Beach as well. This is an all-rounder trail with forests and the ocean in one. You will also see a variety of birds and animal life along the way.

The Tsitsikamma Trail is 60 km long and takes five days to complete. This hike focuses on the majestic beauty of natural wonders as it begins at Nature's Valley Beach and winds through the Tsitsikamma Mountains, ending at the Storms River Bridge.

The Harkerville Trail is a challenging two-day hike that encompasses the forest, coast and fynbos in a circular 26 km. Suppose you haven't prepared for the physical toll of a hike or decide to embark on one on a whim. In that case, you can choose the option of the less difficult trails such as the Elephant Gorge Hiking Trail on one of Plettenberg Bay's private game reserves or the Dolphin Trail along the Tsitsikamma coast.
