Petervale at a glance

About the suburb of Petervale

Petervale is one of the northern suburbs of Johannesburg, situated between Rivonia, Bryanston, and Paulshof.  It is also next to the N1 highway, which is easily accessed via the Rivonia off-ramp and is convenient for those working in the commercial areas of Rivonia. Petervale has freehold homes, cluster homes, townhouses, and apartment developments.  There are about 800 homes in Petervale.

Interesting facts about Petervale

Roads in Petervale are named after famous artists such as "Rembrandt" van Rijn and "Frans Hals," who were master painters of the 17th century Dutch Golden Age.  Joshua "Reynolds" was an 18th-century English portrait painter, and John "Constable" was a 19th-century English landscape artist. "Herbert" James Draper's well-known paintings include Lancelot and Guinevere, The Foam Sprite, and The Lament for Icarus, all created in the late 1890s.

We can then assume that Petervale was named for "Peter" Paul Rubens, regarded as one of the 17th Century's greatest Baroque painters. His biblical and mythological paintings are the most well-known, and he was commissioned mostly for historical paintings by his wealthy patrons. He also painted portraits and landscapes in his later years.
