A brief history of the area

Muizenberg was established in 1743 by Dutch settlers who required a military post between Cape Town and Simon's Town. It earned its place in the history books on 7 August 1795, when the Battle of Muizenberg played out. This skirmish between the Dutch and the British was a pivotal moment in bringing a temporary end to Dutch rule in the Cape.
