Roodewal served as a British 'Remount Camp' during the Anglo-Boer War. During this period Roodewal was requisitioned by the British Forces for the use of a remount camp where sick and injured horses of the British forces that fought in the Orange Free State and Transvaal were brought to Roodewal to recover.Roodewal is a farming community about 12 km outside of Bloemfontein
