In 1996, Louis and Sybel Möller, a theatrically devoted couple, decided to make their passions for theatre and rural living by founding The Barnyard Theatre. They had set up a dairy farm in the Plettenberg Bay area, but their love of the stage was undimmed.
They took inspiration from the farm's wooden barn, which Louis had constructed in the American style, and turned it into a theatre with a vintage feel. The setting was ideal for their dramatic shows, with wood chips on the floor, a horseshoe gallery, large tables, and lights.
