A brief history of the area

Tyger Valley was formerly known as Twelfth MileStone and was utilised as a wagon stop for farmers delivering their crops to Cape Town. Bellville was formerly known as 12 Mile Stone since it is about 20 kilometres from Cape Town. It began as a railway station from Cape Town to Stellenbosch and Strand. Bellville was renamed after surveyor General Charles Bell in 1861.

There are several suburbs near Tyger Valley in the Northern Suburbs of Cape Town. Bellville is one of the closest suburbs, often considered part of the same urban area. It takes about 5 minutes (2.5 km) via Durban Rd/R302 or 9 minutes (6.4 km) via R302 to reach Bellville. Another neighbouring suburb is Durbanville, located to the north of Tyger Valley. 

If you're heading to Cape Town International Airport, it's around 19 minutes away (15.0 km) via M16. The CBD can be reached in approximately 21 minutes (23.6 km) via N1.

The average maximum temperature in February is 27°C, the year's warmest month. The coldest month is July, with an average maximum temperature of 18°C.
