What is the most expensive suburb in Johannesburg?

According to Charles Vining, Managing Director of Seeff in Sandton, Blair Atholl is one of the most luxurious and prestigious suburbs to call home. "This exclusive estate is home to the successful elite, situated conveniently close to Lanseria airport and the convenience of private hangars. Positioned beyond the hustle and bustle of Johannesburg, Blair Atholl offers country living with maximum security on a magnificent golf estate," he explains.

Next on the list is Westcliff which, Vining adds, is a leafy suburb with a rich history reflected in its architecture. "Homes here have views over the greenbelt area that is the Johannesburg Zoo," he explains. "Many of the stately homes in Westcliff have impressive gardens shaded by Jacaranda trees."

The next area that Vining adds to the list of prestigious places to live is Dunkeld. "While it's in the heart of Sandton, it's also tucked away in well-established avenues like the quiet neighbourhoods of Hyde Park and Rosebank," he shares.

"Sandhurst is arguably the most prestigious suburb in Sandton, where the most super-homes in Johannesburg are found," Vining continues. "The area attracts professionals from South Africa and abroad due to the luxurious way of life that's on offer here."

With regard to Inanda, Vining points out that this area is home to the elite Inanda Polo Club, which hosts an array of impressive functions and events. "Properties here are mansions set on sprawling lawns and many of Johannesburg's who's-who call Inanda home," he comments.

Vining adds that even though Hyde Park is not featured on Lightstone's list of the most expensive areas of Gauteng, having an address here is another hallmark of success. "Properties of all types and styles are to be found in Hyde Park and the suburb has held its value well over the years. Investors who have owned property here over the medium term have experienced good returns when selling their properties. Hyde Park is always in demand."

The richest area in Gauteng

Waterkloof in East Pretoria has reportedly overtaken Sandton as the most prestigious and expensive area of Gauteng. Most of the upmarket homes here are found ensconced in secure estates, and those fortunate enough to call Waterkloof home get to enjoy breathtaking views and a wide array of things to do.

Gauteng's most expensive streets

Lightstone also provides a list of Gauteng's most expensive streets and topping this list is Coronation Road in Sandhurst. Others roads featured include 4th Road in Hyde Park and 1st Road in Dunkeld West. Also making the list are Woolston Road in Westcliff and 9th Street in Houghton Estate.
