Best beaches, R1bn in property for Plett

Category News

Plettenberg Bay continues its reign as one of the most sought-after coastal property locations with the latest Lightstone data showing that property transactions worth almost R1bn have been concluded for the twelve months to end of October 2017. This is the second successive year where volumes have topped this.

Kevin Engelsman, Seeff’s Licensee for the area, says that the local market remains active and agents expect a busy summer season ahead for the sales and rentals market. Despite the weak economic landscape, people are still buying property in Plett.

For this year to end October, Seeff has already sold 125 units to the value of over R340 million. The excellent performance of the town has also seen the Plettenberg Bay branch scoop a number of top property awards within the Seeff group this year including ‘Licensee of The Year’, ‘Highest Market Share’ as well as ‘Most Units Sold’ in our division, he says.

Plettenberg Bay also tops the country’s Blue Flag beaches list with six top rated swimming and surf beaches, being Robberg 5, Lookout Beach, Keurboomstrand, The Dunes, The Singing Kettle and Nature’s Valley. It is a hot spot for whale watching and Dolphin spotting. There is also plenty for those who love all things equestrian including polo at Kurland, golfing and other sport along with yachting at the Keurbooms River mouth and marina.

And, says Engelsman, if you don’t already know, Plettenberg Bay is now also a sought-after wine region with the Plett Wine & Bubbly Route offering more than 16 wine farms.

A recent New World Wealth Report placed it second to Cape Town’s Atlantic Seaboard for millionaire-owned second homes and you can find plenty of super luxury homes with fabulous water views at varying prices.

Although widely regarded as the playground of the rich and famous, you certainly do not have to be a millionaire to buy property here, says Engelsman. There is still a broad choice to suit every buyer need and budget and you have plenty of waterside living to choose from with a long coastline and two rivers, the Keurbooms and Bitou Rivers.

You can still find a vacant plot from about R200,000 and an apartment from around R650,000 while houses range from about R1,5 million. Luxury houses range from around R10m to just under R60 million for an exclusive beach house located on Beachy Head Drive, one of the most-sought after addresses in the country with fabulous sea views as far as the eye can see.

Aside from local demand, the town is also popular for semigrating buyers as well as retirees given the fantastic weather and quality of life combined with excellent amenities. It remains a highly sought-after destination for holiday and second homes and over the high summer season, the town is abuzz with holiday makers from across the world.

The town offers excellent facilities including schools and shopping and quick access to the Garden Route attractions including Knysna and George as well as its own local airport with direct flights from Cape Town and Johannesburg.
