Spectacular new eco-estate launched on the KZN South Coast

Category Developments

Margate on the beautiful KZN South Coast is home to a spectacular new 120ha eco-estate, Serenity Hills. This is welcome news for the area given the high demand for sustainable living, says Michelle Harris, licensee for Seeff South Coast.

She adds that the KZN South Coast has experienced a notable uptick in buyer demand since the onset of the Covid-pandemic as people have re-evaluated their lifestyles and looked for a better quality of life. The area has consequently seen an influx of interest from buyers from around Durban as well as other inland areas.

Security and a quality lifestyle are often the two key deliverables for buyers when they look to invest in an estate. The appeal lies in being able to enjoy a secure, family-friendly lifestyle with access to open spaces with added amenities driving even more appeal.

Serenity Hills indeed ticks all the boxes when it comes to a desirable estate within an inspiring environment, says Mrs Harris. It is a low-density estate with beautiful natural landscapes and as a bonus, overlooks the Indian Ocean.

It offers a secure, yet sustainable lifestyle surrounded by lush vegetation, natural rocky outcrops and hills, a proliferation of bird and butterfly species and game. 70ha of the estate is allocated for private conservation.

There will be a total of 600 homes set in three neighbourhoods, all in a secure, access controlled environment. Generous spacing between the properties provides privacy for each home within its own eco environment.

The homes are north facing for maximum sun exposure and ocean views. There is a choice of two to four bedroomed freestanding houses with quality, contemporary finishes, a private garden and choice of a single or double carport. The properties are pet friendly.

Security and sustainability are primary features, says Mrs Harris. This includes 24-hour security, perimeter fencing, thermal cameras, access control and security personnel. Gas geysers and hobs, LED lighting, solar panels and water collection ensures more sustainable living and lower utility costs.

Additionally, reservoirs on the estate will provide water security for residents for up to three months. To add further sustainability and water security, property owners have the option to install their own rainwater tanks.

Another unique feature provides residents with access to vegetable gardens where they can grow their own produce. It is based on the “Schrebergärten” concept which provides for the allotment of small parts of a bigger piece of land which are then rented by people to growth their own vegetables.

The estate offers excellent facilities and amenities. These include a clubhouse with various social activities, the award-winning Packshed Restaurant offering delicious food and wines and freshly-baked pastries delivered to the houses via a Tuk-Tuk bakery, a children’s playground, and an Observation Tower on the highest point in Margate.

For those who love the outdoors, there are safe leisure trails for mountain biking, walking and running as well as a dam which is stocked with fish. There are also opportunities for bird and animal spotting and general nature appreciation.

Future on-site care facilities are also planned, says Mrs Harris. This would include serviced apartments as well as frail care, dementia and step-down facilities which means the estate caters to a wide range of buyer needs.

Aside from attracting local buyers from various areas, there are also quite a few international buyers who are interested in purchasing the interest, says Mrs Harris.

This remarkable new estate is developed by Vida Capital, Constructionize and the Wenger Family who are well entrenched on the KZN South Coast. They are also the owners of the renowned “Packshed Restaurant” which forms part of the estate and the Sweetdale trails and local skills’ centre which promotes community upliftment.

Serenity Hills offers an ideal family lifestyle focused on holistic living. It combines security and quality design and finishes for the best lifestyle amidst this subtropical paradise, says Sam Wenger, the development director who has lived here for over ten years.

Phase 1 of the development is now selling. Prices start at R1.395 million for a two-bedroomed home, upwards of R1.799 million for three bedrooms and R2.345 million upwards for four bedrooms. These prices include VAT and there is no transfer duty payable.
