A brand new development programme for aspiring young football players in the Mother City has just been launched. Football Elite offers young soccer fans and players the chance to train and develop their skills. Founded by Bafana Bafana and Moroka Swallows defender, Ashraf Hendricks, Football Elite targets children between the ages of 4 and 12 and aims to mentor them and provide guidance in the game. Football Elite to help Capetonian children The development programme presents a great opportunity for young players to create new social interactions and friendships with like-minded kids. These children will come from communities and households that face unique challenges so Football Elite will be a space in which the kids can spend time and keep themselves occupied. Besides the leisure and health benefits, Football Elite will keep children off the streets and away from gangster-related activities and crime. Hendricks will bring his wealth of knowledge and experience to the field during the training sessions. He has played for various clubs and teams throughout his career and will pass on techniques learned from a number of South Africa’s top coaches. Coaching is tailored to each child Football Elite is considerate of the fact that not all children develop at the same pace. Therefore, training is focused on individuals and coaching plans are tailored to each child that will allow them to build a solid foundation in football. The development programmes will run throughout the year and the children will be able to play for any club of their choice during the season. Parents will also receive monthly feedback on the progress of their child. Young players will also get the opportunity to visit the original programme facility in Johannesburg once a year.
