Located in Ramsgate, KwaZulu-Natal, is a most wonderous place filled with beauty and delight called Butterfly Valley. Specialising in South African butterflies, Butterfly Valley breed most of its own butterflies and are therefore able to showcase the entire life cycle of these amazing creatures to its visitors. This is quite special as it is unlike the other similar attractions where the pupae are imported.

What visitors can expect at Butterfly Valley

Butterfly Valley is not only a world of fun but is educational too. There is a breeding centre where guests can learn through an informative slide show on the life cycle of butterflies. As Butterfly Valley does not import its butterflies, visitors have the opportunity to witness the complete life cycle of these miraculous creatures up close. You may even be lucky enough to view a butterfly emerging from its pupae and pumping fluid through its wings to expand them. The whole process is a miraculous sight and very special indeed.

Visitors can also experience the Butterfly Flight Dome where they are free to walk around at their leisure and enjoy having butterflies fly around them. The enclosure provides a great sense of security for the butterflies which aid them in being calmer and more relaxed than wild butterflies. This provides great photo opportunities so don't forget to take your camera along.

Butterflies are not the only incredible beings you will find at Butterfly Valley. Visitors can explore Curious Creatures which is home to some amazing animals such as Australian Spiny Leaf Insects, Bearded Dragons, Emperor Scorpions and the Brazillian Blue Tarantula.

Butterfly Valley also has its own Craft Shop where you can shop for a special gift or buy a souvenir to remember your trip to the farm. The Craft Shop offers various products from children's toys to original art pieces. 

Operating hours and entrance fees at Butterfly Valley

Butterfly Valley is open to the public seven days a week. From Monday to Saturday, the hours are from 09:00 to 16:00 with the last tour of the day beginning at 15:00. On Sundays the farm opens at 10:00 and closes at 14:00.

Entrance fees are as follows:

• Adults (ages 18+) - R80.00 
• Scholars (ages 11-17) - R60.00 
• Children (ages 3-10) - R40.00
