The Domestic Animal Rescue Group (DARG) in Hout Bay is a pro-life, non-profit organisation that rescues, cares for, sterilizes and rehomes previously abused, neglected and abandoned cats and dogs.
DARG gives dogs and cats a second chance and provides shelter on a large plot in Hout Bay for its rescues. They have an extensive cat garden, cat sanctuary, outdoor and indoor kennel areas as well as indoor rooms for animals in treatment or rehabilitation.
If you would like to lend a hand DARG relies on the public's generosity and support through donations. Be sure to visit the official website to donate. You should also visit their website if you're interested in adopting a cat or dog. DARG takes the future lives of their rescues very seriously so you should be aware that they have strict adoption rules. Some of the animals at DARG have been through unimaginable hardships so it's important to DARG that their new homes be forever and ones in which they can thrive and flourish.
To become a volunteer you will need to contact the DARG office to book an orientation. They welcome all volunteers over the age of 18 and supervised children are welcome to help make treat and toys, help clean and organise and groom cats.
Other ways in which you can help include collecting dog and cat food and newspapers at your school or work to donate to DARG.
DARG also has a charity book shop that sells amazing books at incredible prices. The book shop is open daily from 10am - 3pm and is located on the Main Rd in Hout Bay.
The DARG Garage Sale occurs Tuesday - Thursday from 1pm - 3pm, Saturday and Sunday from 11am - 2pm and public holidays from 11am - 2pm. There are various second-hand goods for sale as well as tea, coffee and cakes.
