Cassis Paris

This is a renowned coffee shop and confectionary in Newlands. Cassis is the perfect place to enjoy a traditional French croissant and a shot of Italian espresso. The cafe offers an extensive seasonal menu inspired by the French salons of Paris, situated in a trendy space.

Their speciality is, of course, fresh French pastries and baked sweet desserts that have been created in the kitchen. Patrons can relax and savour some sugary treats or simply enjoy an espresso in the afternoon sun.

Cassis is open from 7:30am to 6pm during the weekdays, from 7:30am to 5pm on Saturdays and from 8am to 3pm on Sundays. Find them at 5 Cardiff Castle on the corner of Kildare Road and Main Street in Newlands.

häzz

Häzz is a coffee roastery and café that sources, roasts and blends its own beans to produce the perfect cup every time. The beans are sourced responsibly from various regions in Central America, South America and Africa, giving their coffees an exceptional taste with a wide range of aromas.

The café only roasts on demand, ensuring that their beans are as fresh as possible. Customers can purchase whole beans or pre-ground häzz coffee at the Newlands shop, or at the original häzz café in Stellenbosch. Patrons who bring their own reusable coffee cups will also get a discount on their beverages.

This häzz is open from 7am to 5pm on weekdays and from 8am to 1pm on the weekends. Find them at the Kildare Centre on the corner of Main and Wheelan Streets in Newlands.

Importers Coffee Specialists

This is another coffee roastery and shop offering unique blends and beans with your favourite cuppa joe. Importers Coffee Specialists imports top quality beans from the world’s leading equatorial coffee growing regions. The beans are then hand-roasted in a traditional drum roaster. Patrons can buy single origin beans by the bag or opt to have them ground on-site.

Importers Coffee Specialists serves simple breakfasts and lunches, such as salt and pepper scrambled eggs and healthy wraps. If you prefer something sweet, grab a freshly-baked croissant or a muffin. Importers also sells homemade gelato and soft-serve ice cream.

The coffee shop offers a range of beverages, besides creamy coffee. For the health-nuts in Newlands, Importers makes freshly squeezed and blended juices on site. The dairy-based smoothies are made from fat-free frozen yoghurt and fresh fruit.

Importers Coffee Specialists is open from 7am to 5pm on the weekdays and from 8am to 2pm on the weekends. Find them at 28 Kildare Road in Newlands.

The Gardener’s Cottage

The Gardener’s Cottage is a quaint and homely coffee shop/restaurant at the Montebello Design Centre in the wooded heart of Newlands. This converted house is a popular spot for weekend breakfasts, especially during summer when guests can sit outside under the shade of the Camphor trees.

The Gardener’s Cottage used to belong to the gatekeeper of the Montebello Estate but was converted into the restaurant and coffee shop in 1993. They offer breakfast, lunch, tea and a variety of homemade treats that can be purchased from the shop and taken home.

They are open from 8am to 4:30pm on the weekdays and from 8:30am to 4:30pm on the weekends. Find The Gardener’s Cottage at 31 Newlands Avenue.

Vida e Caffè

Vida is a Portuguese coffee franchise that offers the usual teas, coffees and hot chocolates. Try their special blend of coffee - a mix of Arabica beans with a low caffeine content that’s delicate on the palette.

Another must-try is their iced coffee (or gelado). They blend their branded coffee with ice cream to make a creamy and smooth drink that is perfect for a hot day. Vida also serves fruit smoothies and juices.

Admittedly, Vida e Caffè is more suited to takeaways but they do offer seating for the more patient patrons. Try some of their sweet and savoury snacks, such as homemade muffins, pretzel rolls (paozinhos), and sandwiches.

Vida e Caffè is open from 7am to 6pm on the weekdays, from 7am to 4pm on Saturdays and from 7am to 2pm on Sundays. Find them at the Newlands Quarter shopping centre on the corner of Main and Dean Streets.
