Swellendam is the fifth oldest town in South Africa. With a small population of just over 17 000 people, the town has a close-knit farming community that takes pride in its heritage. Marloth Nature Reserve is hidden in the Swellendam mountains. It conserves vegetation of mountain fynbos, forestry and numerous species of indigenous flowers. There are hiking trails available around the reserve and visitors are encouraged to take advantage of the natural beauty on offer by leaving the 4x4 behind in favour of mountain biking.
