The upmarket suburb of Duxberry is close to the suburbs of Morningside and River Club, with easy access to the Sandton business hub.  This small suburb is boomed-off and has security patrols to enable residents to enjoy this peaceful area.  There are only 160 homes in Duxberry; all are freehold homes, some are cluster-style, and some are traditional family homes. There are no apartments or flats in this quiet suburb. 

Interesting facts about the history of Duxberry

Duxberry was one of the last farms in the Sandton area to be developed in the 1970s. The namesake town of Duxberry is in Massachusetts in the United States of America. It is a pretty Cape Cod town in the county of Plymouth. The first settlers arrived there in 1624, and today it is famous for its oysters.

Schools in the area

Redhill private school is one of the closest to the suburb of Duxberry. Situated on Summit Road in Morningside, it is a co-ed school with over 100 years of history. Redhill has an early learning center, the Pre-Preparatory School, a Preparatory School, and a High School.  It is known to be the only school in the country that offers students the choice of graduating with either an IB Diploma or an IEB Senior Certificate.

Crawford International in Benmore Gardens and St. Stithians in the nearby suburb of Bryanston are excellent schooling options for both boys and girls, from Grades 000 to Grade 12 (Matric).

Medical facilities in the area

Morningside Medi Clinic in Morningside is the most conveniently located private hospital from Duxberry, although it is only a few minutes further to the Sandton Medi Clinic in Bryanston. Both private hospitals have many highly respected medical services and facilities.

Shopping centers and malls in the area

Morningside Shopping Centre is nearest to Duxberry, and with over sixty stores, shops, and restaurants, almost all your needs will be met. From leading anchor retail stores to boutique experiences, there are café-style amenities and fine dining options.

The major shopping destination is Sandton City and Nelson Mandela Square, just ten minutes from Duxberry.

Distance to airports, main roads, and the CBD

Situated just 5 kilometers from the Sandton central business district, Dunkeld is an easy commute for those working in the Sandton CBD. It's also less than 20 kilometers to the Johannesburg inner city business district, where many courthouses, large hospitals, universities, and public theatres are located. Smaller business nodes are in Rosebank and Melrose, en route to the Johannesburg CBD from Dunkeld.

Those travelling from Dunkeld can use the Lanseria Airport, some 27 kilometers away, or the OR Tambo International Airport, which is 36 kilometers from Dunkeld. There is also a train service - the Gautrain - that has a route to the airport. It is very convenient as the train stops inside the airport building. The nearest station to Dunkeld is the Rosebank station. It is just 12 minutes by train to the OR Tambo Airport (and you miss the traffic!).

Weather in Duxberry


Most of the South African interior is part of a high-lying plateau. Known as the Highveld, this region is far cooler than the northern Lowveld areas of South Africa. It is said to have the best weather in the country, so residents of Broadacres can enjoy their time outdoors! Warm summer days are wind-free, and winter days are crisp, clear, and dry. The sun shines 80% of the time.
