A brief history of the area

Horison forms part of Roodepoort which was founded in 1884 after brothers Fred and Harry Struben discovered gold on the farm Wilgespruit at the western end of the Witwatersrand and were granted concessions to mine the area. Roodepoort officially became a city in 1977 and has since developed as one of Johannesburg's most prominently Afrikaans-speaking districts.

Lanseria International Airport is approximately 35 km away (40 minutes) via the N14. Horison residents looking to reach Johannesburg CBD can do so in 39 minutes (22,7 km) via Main Reef Road.

In Horison, the climate is warm and temperate. The average annual temperature is 15.9 °C with the area seeing 784 mm of rainfall each year. January is the warmest month of the year with the temperature averaging 19.7 °C while December is the wettest month.
