Roodepoort is a town situated in the Gauteng province of South Africa. Due to its close proximity to other large Gauteng cities and its established and advanced infrastructure, Roodepoort is expanding at a faster pace than anywhere else in South Africa. A brief history of the area

Roodepoort, means "red valley" in Afrikaans. The residential town gets its name from the red soil in the area. It dates back to 1884, when Fred Struben discovered the first payable gold in the area at what he called the Confidence Reef, a large rocky outcrop in the centre of Roodepoort. In 1963 the Roodepoort-Maraisburg municipality was changed to Roodepoort and city status was granted in 1977.

In Roodepoort, the summers are long, warm, and partly cloudy and the winters are short, cold, dry, and clear. January is the warmest month of the year with an average temperature of 19.7 °C. The wettest month of the year is December with an average of 143 mm of rainfall occurring during the month.
