A brief history of the area
Pretoria was founded in 1855. A longstanding symbol of the hard work that went into achieving South Africa's democracy, it became the administrative capital of the country in 1910 before it was awarded city status in 1931. The travelling time from Pretoria to OR Tambo International Airport is approximately 43 minutes (51,8 km) via the R21. Travelling to Lanseria Airport will take you approximately 50 minutes (59,8 km) via Ben Schoeman Freeway or the N1/N14. These times are dependent on traffic.
Climate
The subtropical climate of Pretoria works well to serve the city's lush parks and growing gardens. With temperatures soaring to highs of 34°C during summer months, the city handles its heat with ease. The dryness of Gauteng can mostly be felt during winter months when temperatures drop to between 4°C-20°C. The weather is ideal for those who love exercising outdoors, enjoying picnics or taking a stroll through one of Pretoria's many monuments.

The market operates from 378 Queens Crescent, Lynwood and is open for trade every Saturday.

Special attractions
The Voortrekker Monument is a granite structure that is symbolic of the journey the Voortrekkers embarked on when they left the Cape Colony between 1835-1854.
