Hurlyvale at a glance

In the early 20th Century, Edenvale was known for its vast open areas of farmland. Hurlyvale forms part of the original Rietfontein farm, which was established in the 1800's. Over time it has transformed into a popular family suburb. Nestled on the east of Edenvale towards Oliver Tambo International Airport, it has Highway Gardens on its east and Elma Park to the west.

Climate:

Hurlyvale's annual temperature is 19.7°C. January being the hottest month with a maximum temperature of 32°C. July is the coldest, with a low of 9.5°C. Rainy season is from October to April and the frequent rain showers in summer are due to the tropical climate. 

Distance from Key Points:

The Oliver Tambo International Airport is an eight-minute drive away from Hurlyvale. It's located only 8.9 kilometres via the R24. Johannesburg CBD is 18 minutes (13.1 km) via Albertina Sisulu Drive. It is 27 minutes (15.3 km) to Sandton via the M40, and 43 minutes (51.7 km) to Pretoria via the Ben Schoeman Freeway /N1.

Medical & Health facilities

Netcare Medicross Medical Centre has general practitioners and dentists on site. It also offers complementary services which include audiology, optometry, physiotherapy, psychology. And, it has a pharmacy. It is four minutes (2.3 km) from Hurlyvale. There is also the Eden Dental Center which is a full-service dental centre.

Edenvale Hospital provides healthcare facilities. There is also the Private Busamed Hospital, orthopaedic and oncology centre in Modderfontein, this is an award-winning South African hospital group which provides specialist services. It will take approximately 18 minutes (12.5km). Bedford Life Gardens is 11 minutes (8.8km) from Hurlyvale. 

Education in Edenvale

The well-established Hurlyvale Primary School is within the suburb, with Curro Edenvale Primary school and Curro Edenvale High School in Highway Gardens on its doorstep. Nearby primary schools include Eastleigh Primary School, and the popular Dunvegan Primary. Other high school students have two options, Holy Rosary, a private all-girls school with a holistic education approach, and Edenvale High School known for its academic achievements.

Shopping Centres:

Karaglen Shopping Centre is a popular option with the convenience of a SuperSpar  close by to Hurlyvale. Greenstone Mall is only 10 minutes (5.1 km) away. Other options include Eden Meadows, Green valley in Greenstone, Flamingo Mall in Modderfontein, Linksfield Terrace, Stoneridge shopping centre, Bedford Centre, and Eastgate. There is also the Neighbourhood lifestyle development and shopping complex. Hurlyvale residents are spoilt for choice in the surrounding suburbs.

Restaurants:

Malagueta Mediterranean family restaurant with its specials and kiddies play area, is an extremely popular and the closest restaurant to Hurlyvale. It is only 3 min (1.6km) away. Hurlyvale is six minutes (2.9 km) from Karaglen. Karaglen shopping centre has some popular restaurants with the locals, including Fin & Fillet Grill and Casa Capri, a popular restaurant to enjoy watching sport. Other well-known eateries in Edenvale include The Red Door. Cafe Billi B in Stoneridge is a good choice for coffee, breakfast and lunches. 

Special Attractions:

Horwood's Farm is a national monument. It has undergone renovations and is a family friendly destination. On the first weekend of every month the Horwood's Farm Market has food trucks, stalls, beer-garden and live music. The event is becoming more popular. It lets people buy gourmet food, crafts, and sell their produce.

The Department of Home Affairs in Edenvale is a busy hub for people needing to get their documents in order.

Predominantly freehold make up the Hurlyvale area. Including freestanding houses as well as townhouses and apartments. It is an ideal location for families looking to enjoy the best of suburban Johannesburg.
