The town of Centurion, formerly known as Verwoerdburg, is situated in Gauteng between the cities of Midrand and Pretoria. A brief history of the area

Centurion has its roots in Lyttelton Township, which was established in 1904 on the estate Droogegrond. By uniting the areas of Doornkloof, Irene, and Lyttelton, it was given its City Council status in 1964 and given the name Lyttelton. Lyttelton was later renamed Verwoerdburg in 1967. Verwoerdburg eventually changed its name to Centurion, a name it has maintained to today
