A brief history of the area

Comet forms part of Boksburg which was founded in 1887 as the administrative centre of the East Rand. It is the second oldest town on the Witwatersrand and was once an important mining town. It holds the world's largest known gold reserves and has produced over 40 000 tonnes which represent roughly 22% of all the gold accounted for above the surface.
