HISTORY OF DAVENTRY COURT KILLARNEY Daventry Court is a prestige art deco building, which is one of Killarney’s heritage landmarks. Built-in 1934 and located on the corner of Riviera Road and 4th Avenue. An extension to the original building along 4th Avenue in1936. Daventry Court was designed by 3 young architects from Johannesburg. It was their first big project.
In the 1980s the building underwent a major renovation. Everything was renewed, maintaining the original look. The lifts were not replaced leaving the unique custom designed doors and cabs which are decorated with walnut panels. The mechanism was upgraded.
The area attracted many of the Jewish community. Daventry Court was probably the first multi-storied block of flats erected in Killarney in the 1930s and by the 1960 - 70s the status of Daventry Court had changed.
