Things you can do in the South Coast with your toddler

Category News

Your toddler is the pride of your life. At this age, they're learning to walk, talk and socialise. Keeping them entertained can be a challenge. These curious creatures need lots of stimulation. Turn the 'Terrible Twos' into 'Terrific Twos'. There's plenty of family-friendly experiences to keep toddlers entertained on the Hibiscus Coast. The best part? You won't break the bank, and you'll get to join in on the fun.

With your toddler, it's best to keep it simple. Here are some of the spots you should explore.

Oribi Gorge Nature Reserve

When you want to teach your child to appreciate nature, Oribi Gorge is a beautiful place to start. There are gorgeous trails to walk and picnic spots to stop for lunch. The whole family will have a great time trying to spot bushbucks, giraffes, vervet monkeys, and more. Brave kids will also want to tackle the suspension bridge.

If you need a breather, Lake Eland Game Reserve has a playground area to keep your little one occupied. After a relaxing cup of tea, you'll be ready to take on a game drive. Whether you choose a self-drive or guided tour, your child will enjoy the bumpy, scenic ride.

Hibberdene Beach

This is a lovely, safe beach and very close to shops if you've forgotten the sunscreen. Your toddler will have a ball making sandcastles, exploring rock pools and having their first dip in the water. You can also bond by searching for shells on the shore. It's a reasonably flat beach, so you'll be able to keep an eye on your child at all times.

If you're looking for a family-friendly restaurant, the Jolly Roger Fun Pub & Grub exceeds expectations. There's a jungle gym, water slide and a putt-putt course for older children.

Riverbend Crocodile Farm

The farm promises something for the whole family, and they mean it. Your child will be fascinated by the crocodile feeding and seeing the different types of snakes. The curio shop is the perfect place to pick up a new toy for the well behaved. If you feel for something sweet, be sure to stop by the restaurant. There's plenty of milkshakes, scones and lemon meringue pies that need attention.

Your child may very well fall in love with the farm. You'll be happy if they do. Children two years and younger enter for free!

Butterfly Valley Butterfly Farm

There's something magical about these winged insects. And your toddlers will agree. The butterfly domes have enough colour, splendour and movement to keep your child amused. You'll enjoy the educational tour and leisure stroll knowing your child is safe.

There's a lot more you can see here. Be sure to take a look at the emperor scorpions, bearded dragons, spiders and turtles. Your child will delight in cuddling the rabbits. It's the perfect opportunity for a photograph you'll treasure forever.

Mac Banana

There's so much to do at this shopping centre, it truly is an all-in-one experience. At the Mac Farmyard, your child can play on a giant trampoline or take a pony ride. Active children will like the Mac Venture Golf. It has a nice course that will keep them busy.

Mac Lifestyle boasts quaint places to eat. If you're in the mood for fish, pizzas, pancakes or Portuguese food, you'll have a great time.
