The Restaurant Scene in Hermanus

Category Area Focus

Start your day the right way with an excellent breakfast in town, at Burgundy Restaurant. One of the oldest restaurants in town, with prime positioning overlooking the sea at the historical Old Harbour, Burgundy's is known for delicious food, from breakfast to dinner. They have options to tantalise every palate, from devourable eggs benedict to croissants for breakfast - also, have you tried a pancake with a milktart filling? For lunch to dinner, they have an assortment of pastas, seafood, salads, snack platters, poultry, and meat - including a local favourite Bobotie which can be enjoyed with lentils for vegetarians, or try their mung bean burger. Enjoy dining inside or outside on a large deck with the fresh ocean air; a cocktail, beer, wine or your usual spirit of choice in hand.

Also at the waterfront, you'll find Char'd Grill & Wine Bar with a refreshing take on a steakhouse. A steampunk interior and friendly staff greets and seats you. A place for the love of meat with next level steaks (aged, and basted or not), gourmet burgers, and many dishes to satiate a good appetite - think pork belly, ribs, calamari, lobster, wings, and next-level loaded fries. They have a wonderful selection of naughty beverages and outside seating overlooking the vibe of town-explorers and the local market over weekends - a great vantage point for people-watching.

Bientangs Cave Restaurant & Wine Bar is a renowned top spot for land-based whale-watching, situated in a cave with seating inside as well as tables outside on the rocks - right at the water's edge. Celebrate life with bubbles and fresh oysters. Their food is divine - from mezze and seafood platters, to delectable seafood starters and mains, wonderful vegetarian options (ravioli, curry, falafel burgers), steaks, ribs, burgers, soul-warming potjies and curries. They're open weather permitting as they're right on the oceanfront.

Situated in the Hemel-en-Aarde of wines, Creation is a wine farm that not only delights the palate with award-winning wines, but also with flavoursome gourmet food. They're an excellent choice for breakfast and lunch (they're open till 17h00). Let them take you on a journey of flavour with their food and wine pairings. They have a set menu, as well as a daily blackboard menu with delectable options made with the freshest ingredients. Not only that, but they have vegan, vegetarian and pescatarian options, as well as a tea and food pairing for those who want a non-alcoholic experience, or simply for the love of tea.

It's no wonder that the Overstrand won the UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy in 2019, placed amongst international cities for flavours to be boasted about.
