The Barnard Gallery in Newlands is a contemporary art gallery that was established in 2010 by owner and director Christiaan Barnard.
The double-volume gallery displays and explores various kinds of contemporary art, visuals and mixed media by talented artists such as Paul du Toit, Norman Catherine, Robert Slingsby, Rachelle Bomberg, Beezy Bailey, Gail Catlin, Uwe Pfaff, Philip Briel, Willie Bester, Sarah Biggs, Lien Botha, Virginia MacKenny, Tracy Payne and Ndikhumbule Ngqinambi. The Barnard Gallery has hosted highly successful shows and thoughtfully curated group exhibitions.
The philosophy of the Barnard Gallery is to showcase art that Christiaan is passionate about and would evoke the same appreciation from the public. The gallery provides a professional service not only to the artists with whom they exhibit, but to art enthusiasts, collectors and investors as well. With comprehensive advertising and marketing strategies the gallery team ensures that the artwork is not confined to the walls upon which they are hung.
The gallery has an active publishing program and participates in a number of Art Fairs both locally and internationally.
It is fast becoming known as an important nexus in the South African art scene and the gallery has built a loyal following of collectors. A number of artists whose work has been displayed in the gallery have received prestigious awards and international residency grants.
