In 1929, the Marist Brothers, who arrived in KwaZulu-Natal in 1914, took ownership of Cato Manor, the farm on which the school is built. The property was known as the "Maze" due to the zig-zag pathways that led to the ends of the property and ultimately gave Maze Road its name. South Africa was the fourth country in the world and the first outside of Europe to which the Marist Brothers extended their teaching organisation. In 1931, the new building was built and became St Henry's Marist Brothers' College in Durban. Today, St. Henry's Marist College continue to offer students a well-rounded education, focusing on academics, athletics, and spiritual growth.
