Johannesburg South's property industry offers something for everyone.

Category News

Johannesburg South consists of many diverse and popular suburbs, from the mining suburbs in the “Old South” to large estates in Alberton.

Jhb South is best known for its central location, easy access to major highways and good municipal routes to the Johannesburg CBD.

There are also many good nursery, primary and high schools, places of worship and shopping centres and all amenities are within close proximity of all the suburbs. The area has furthermore built up a reputation for its well established family communities.

Fatima Shah, an agent for Seeff JHB South, says the South is a diamond in the dust that has been discovered by astute developers who were seeking growth opportunities and as a result the momentum of new developments in the South has been phenomenal.

“Property seekers are never disappointed and there are homes to suit every budget. First time home buyers and investors can even find homes priced at under a half million in some suburbs.”

Nicholas Falck, another agent here, says the suburb of Mondeor is set in a quaint valley with hills and surrounded by the Klipriversberg nature reserve where families can go for a walk or appreciate the views.

Falck continues that in Mondeor sectional title two bedroom with one bathroom units of around 65m2 can be picked up for between R575 000 and R625 000 and three bedroom with two bathroom units of 79m2 range in price of between R675 000 and R795 000 depending on the complex, condition and position. Ground floor units with private gardens for instance are very popular and are usually snatched up within a few days or even a few hours!

“Freestanding homes in Mondeor range from R1050 million for a fixer upper to early R2 millions for larger, more modern homes situated on stands of 2000m2 and upwards”.

Jeanine Begg, another Seeff agent, says Glenvista is an affluent residential suburb set amongst the picturesque landscape of Johannesburg South and is home to many entertainment facilities, established shopping malls and restaurants. It also boasts a number of good schools and the popular Glenvista Golf club.

Glenvista offers a variety of properties ranging from stylish clusters, executive apartments and lavish freestanding homes to suit an array of lifestyle needs. Sectional title apartments range between R800 000 and R1.1million where the demand for units with private gardens is higher.

Cluster units range anywhere from R1.2 million to R2.5 million, while most full title homes in Glenvista offer large stands and spectacular views and sell for around the R2 million - R2.2 million rand mark. In certain parts of Glenvista homes can sell for anywhere from late R2 millions and up however.

“Glenvista remains to be a sought after upmarket area in Johannesburg South and continues to see an influx of investors and development”.

Heather Mccann, who also works for Seeff JHB South, says Meyersdal in Alberton is the most active and sought after area in the South and includes a number of upmarket estates with safe tranquil settings. Homes here range from just under a million rand and go up all the way to R40 million. One of the major drawcards of Meyersdal is that it is close to the city, but still enjoys a country vibe.

From the above it is clear that Johannesburg South truly has an offering that appeals to people from all walks of life.
