It has been scientifically proven that certain houseplants are able to purify the air, remove toxins and significantly improve your health. Here is a list of plants and their benefits.
Aloe vera
Aloe vera is a succulent that is easy to grow and loves sunshine. It is able to clear formaldehyde and benzene from the air. Formaldehyde is commonly found in the resins and solvents in building materials, and benzene is in glue, paint, and detergent. The gel inside the plant is also used to help heal cuts and burns.
Ferns
Ferns are one of the easiest plants to grow and can increase air humidity. This is a great way to ensure that your air and skin don't become too dry.
Spider plant
The spider plant is resilient and able to clear benzene, formaldehyde, carbon monoxide and xylene. Xylene is in paint thinner and petrol. This plant is effective in treating headaches, eye irritation and respiratory problems. It is also easy to grow and safe for pets.
Gerbera daisy
This colourful plant removes trichloroethylene and benzene. Trichloroethylene is used mainly as a solvent to remove grease from metal parts, but it is also an ingredient in adhesives and paint removers.
Snake plant
This oxygen boosting plant is perfect for the bedroom and is one of the best for filtering out formaldehyde and carbon monoxide.
Chrysanthemum
This beautiful, flowering plant filters out benzene.
Weeping fig
Also known as a ficus, these plants filter out pollutants such as formaldehyde, benzene and trichloroethylene.
English ivy
English ivy reduces airborne fecal-matter particles and filters out formaldehyde. It has also been proven to reduce airborne mold.
Jasmine
Jasmine has been proven to improve sleep and increase your levels of alertness.
Lavender
Lavender is well-known for its soothing properties and has been used for centuries in aromatherapeutic oils. It's one of the easiest, most hardy plants to grow and enjoys a lot of sunshine.
