Great value and great living at Penvalley Golf Estate in Pennington on KZN south coast

Category News

Pennington is a small coastal village halfway between Durban and Port Shepstone, which has easy access to the N3 freeway and to the Drakensberg on the R612 via Umzinto and Highflats. Des Robb of Seeff Pennington describes the area as “the south coast’s best kept secret. It offers a mild climate with quiet, pristine beaches, magnificent bays and safe tidal pools. Add easy access to shopping and hospitals and peaceful surrounds – and it is easy to understand why this area is particularly popular with especially more mature buyers looking to get the most out of their golden years.”

He now has on his books homes and vacant sites in a secure estate in Pennington that has its own 9-hole golf course. “Penvalley Golf Estate is a beautiful, secure estate with an interesting 9-hole golf course snaking around the freehold properties. A clubhouse with a wooden deck overlooks a dam, and the estate is also traversed by the Nkomba River on its way to the sea. To date 35 homes have been built and a number are under construction by the developers and private owners. Simplexes as well as freehold houses are available, and vacant sites can also still be bought to build the house of your dreams in this idyllic setting.”

Stands vary in size from 500 m2 to 1000 m2 but most are between 550 m2 and 650 m2. The price of stands varies from R250 000 to R550 000. A limited number of sites have sea views. Ready-built houses vary in size from two bedrooms to four bedrooms and some have a private pool, with prices for these varying from R1.2m to R3.2m depending on size. Another option is to have your dream house built as a package deal by one of the developers on site.

Bushbuck, mpithi, hyrax, mongoose and otters can be found on the estate, while a herd of impala has also been seen. Bird life is abundant and numerous duck species live around the clubhouse dam. Woolly necked storks, crested cranes, guinea fowl and kingfishers are all regular visitors.

The estate is fully fenced with 24-hour gate controlled access and night-time security patrols.

Adds Robb: “Pennington has many activities to keep one busy. Bowls, croquet, tennis and golf (on two championship courses) can be enjoyed by one and all. A pilot Blue Flag beach along with various restaurants, nurseries and a micro brewery are also popular attractions, as is the Umdoni Forest with its marked trails and gorge. Whales can be viewed from a deck erected by the Pennington Conservancy close to Umdoni Park clubhouse.

“Pennington and Penvalley Golf Estate and are certainly a great place to be, and houses and vacant sites in this golf estate offer excellent value for money compared to golf courses elsewhere in South Africa. This is a superb opportunity to get in during the early days of this estate and to benefit from the capital appreciation that goes with secure and sought after estate living in due course.”
